Working With The Great White North
Posted by: Travis Schmeisser on Monday January 7, 2008
We’re pleased to announce nGen Works has been asked to design and illustrate the conference bags for Web Directions North this year. We’ve been working with Dave Shea culling down ideas and refining the goods. Part of the idea was to create a semi-timeless design that wasn’t tied directly to the conference.
With loads of rich history and imagery surrounding Vancouver we’ve had plenty of inspiration. The hard part was slimming down the options and getting over the fact that they didn’t select our “keyboard player under a rainbow with a unicorn jumping over” theme. That actually got presented. It happened. I remember the other line of that conference call getting really quiet…
The crew will be heading to Vancouver and freezing our Floridian butts off for the conference. Once we get back and the design has been revealed we’ll do a post explaining the paths we took, the ones we didn’t take and some things in between.

For what it’s worth, Maxine was a huge fan of the keyboard player under a rainbow with a unicorn jumping over (although she immediately followed that statement up with some serious introspection and soul-searching)

Sounds like it’s a pretty big honor to get to design for WDN. It’s cool to have you guys local here in J-ville.

I think the keyboard player under a rainbow with a unicorn jumping over would have been great. I think what would have really put it a step above would have been if the unicorn was playing the keyboard, while little blue bunnys were dancing to the jams and eating sherbert while staying away from the evil carrot beasts…Whoa..i got to lay of the caffiene and late nights painting and sketching….to much caffiene…not enough sleep. LOL! :)

@Scott We were definitely thrilled when Dave asked us to help.
@Travis I think Brian stole your sketch book, he completely nailed the unicorn playing the keyboard idea.
