Tick Take Two
Posted by: Carl Smith on Friday June 8, 2007
We’ve been using Tick for several months now and it’s still a very good thing.
I remember talking with Kevin about the different ways people have used the system. Just like any other web application, users do the darnedest things.
So, I thought it might be beneficial to explain how we use it and how it’s impacted our business.
Integration with Basecamp is a breeze.
Once we open a job in Basecamp we go to Tick and tell it to pull the information over. Presto, all the info we put in Basecamp is in Tick.
Then we tell it to copy the tasks we used for a similar job. Abracadabra, all the tasks we need to track our time are in place.
It takes less than a minute to get the job setup in Tick. That’s pretty damned effective.
Being a small shop it’s easy for us to get our time in daily. We don’t have any stragglers who hold things up.
But if we did they would feel the heat. That’s because we generate a quick report every morning that tells us how much time the entire company recorded the day before. Everyone knows where we are on our goals everyday.
If we’re behind, everyone works a little more that day.
If we’re ahead we sneak in a little Guitar Hero II .
Either way, the big advantage with Tick is that it’s so easy we actually use it.
So instead of feeling all stressed out during the month waiting to see how we did, we always know exactly where we stand.
And most importantly we can correct things before they get out of control.
So here’s to Molehill, you guys rock!
(How was that Kevin? Are you going to bring by the beer like you promised?)

Thanks for the Tick review! I’d been looking for something similar to this for awhile now and will have to check it out. It’s really nice to see the clean integration with Basecamp.

Play around with the free version.
Once you use it for a week you’ll be hooked.
Just let us know if you have any questions.
