iPhone Update
Posted by: nGen Works on Wednesday July 18, 2007
I haven’t really jumped on the update wagon yet, so here it goes! I’m one of the many users completely satisfied with my purchase (link via Airbag). It’s turned out to be incredible and has so far lived up to all my expectations and the years of waiting for a good device. Why has it taken so long to get a decent mobile phone out? I think even without the touch screen someone could have tackled a better UI and easier system before now, but Apple beat everyone to it yet again and then passed them by light years.
Quick Notes
- Unlike many others my activation was quick and easy. Guess I got lucky!
- Please stop launching iPhoto when I plug it in. I don’t always want to import pictures.
- Not thrilled with the ringtones, but I’m sure they’ll allow others in time.
- No copy and paste – dammit!
- I’m missing multimedia messaging. I can’t send or receive photos in texts and attempting to explain to people that they can email me from a text message doesn’t really work out. It’s only worse when I get “Go to viewmymessage.com and enter ID: ddt828HUtf536” and are unable to copy the incoherent ID (see above).
- I had to increase the spam filter on my personal email to get rid of the bajillion bogus messages that come through. I rely on SpamSieve for my desktop Mail.app so that’s not helping my mobile email situation.
- I’ve already made use of the map application quite a bit
- Wallpapers are pretty on the huge high resolution screen, but I only get to see it when I wake up the phone. I’m a wallpaper nerd, so this is a bummer.
Everyone loves this device. It’s cliche, but what everyone says is true. When you pull it out everyone wants to see it and play with the different features.
My overall rating: 11 of 10. Everything from applications to the interfaces are smooth and user-friendly and make using your mobile device fun.

Agreed on most of your points here. I’m really digging the device. It is truly a consumer device (no that’s a pejorative), it’s my ‘family’ tool. The photos are great for something I can whip out anytime, the mail and maps have already saved the day, the video ipod (with coverflow) is as cool as it gets. I really dig it…plus people come up to me and ask about it when I’m out and about, which is nice – until the tell their friends in a snotty tone how much I paid for the damn thing. :)

my rating is 23 of 10. The best part is designing a site for the iphone and the only testing browser is safari.
anyway, the missing application on the iphone is the iphone shuffle. But no problem, I created it! click on my name and call the world randomly. Life is randommmm
