Fighting for The Cultural Council

I sure hope this isn’t happening, but it sure looks like it is.
The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville is facing the elimination of their entire organization because of the new property tax plan being pushed in Florida.
The property tax plan will cause reductions in funding for crime prevention, children’s programs, the library system, the zoo, parks and recreation, healthcare systems and all public service grants. You know, the expendable stuff.
One of the casualties will be the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville. And as a result, cultural opportunities for all of us living in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville has made huge strides in the past decade in shaking off it’s inferiority complex. A lot of the good things happening have been related to the cultural events our city is both creating and attracting from other areas. The Cultural Council is our city’s voice in keeping the arts alive. That voice is about to be silenced.
In order to help the Cultural Council and maintain the quality of life in Jacksonville, we are asking you to download this property tax relief information from the Cultural Council. It will give you information on what you can do to help.
Fight the good fight!

I’ve been working with a dept of the COJ on a cross-organization beach clean-up and they were talking about this exact situation yesterday. From what I can tell the police dept should be fine, but all of the “expendable” areas have been placed on a hiring freeze and are now in danger of down sizing or elimination like you stated with the Cultural Council. It’s very scary and retro-active. Thanks for spreading awareness!!
