ExperienceJax Sidewalk “Promotion”
Posted by: nGen Works on Tuesday November 13, 2007
Oh boy. Looks like some people around town are a bit miffed about the sidewalk stencils for ExperienceJax.com that have recently been sprayed.
First of all, it’s chalk-based so it will wash away. No permanent harm. Second, we had nothing to do with it. We designed and developed the website and marketing duties were handed off to another agency.
We understand if the general public is upset over what looks like graffiti or vandalism. To inquire more or register a complaint please contact Amy Crane at The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville.

I thought they looked pretty neat here in Five Points. Neon Pink, Yellow, Green. Made me go check out the website, so from that perspective, they certainly worked. Much better than the swirls of dirty pink, yellow and green that were left after another merchant tried to wash them away.

I will never understand why people are so uppity about this sort of thing. Those stencils are attractive and useful, and an interesting method of getting people from the real world to the website. Maybe it’s a slippery slope argument. It’s nice when it’s a nonprofit or an artist. It would be pretty offensive if it were Coca-Cola or Microsoft.
