Access multiple Gmail accounts in OSX with Mailplane
Posted by: Joey Marchy on Friday August 17, 2007
Mailplane is my new favorite app because it allows you to access multiple Gmail accounts in one place. I have 5 free Mailplane invites if you are interested in trying it out.
Things I love about Mailplane
- Quick switching between Gmail accounts (3-5 seconds)
- Speed. Archiving, composing, even search is fast. Using Mailplane is faster than using Gmail in the browser. I have not idea how they do it (caching?) but I love it.
- Frees up browser memory because I don’t need Gmail in a tab all day
- You can still use keyboard shortcuts
- Better Gmail user interface for my needs
- Well designed interface and dock icon
Mailplane only crashed on me once yesterday. I’m not sure why, but other than that it performed great. If you use OSX and have multiple Gmail accounts you must try Mailplane. It’s free while in beta, not sure what the price will be once it is released.
From the official Mailplane site:
- drag and drop files to create attachments
- take and send screenshots
- send optimized pictures from iPhoto
- use multiple Gmail and Google Apps accounts and store passwords in you keychain
- see and hear powerful “new mail” notifications
- enjoy Mac keyboard shortcuts with Gmail
- chat with Google Talk

Thanks, I think I just invited myself using your invite, wasn’t sure if that was correct etiquette or not. :)
Thanks for that.

Cheryl,
You got it, that’s exactly right.
